I'm becoming a bit of a re-release obsessive. With recent re-releases of Apocalypse Now, Gilda, and Taxi Driver (to name but a few) I find myself glued to the Park Circus website and checking the GFT and Filmhouse programmes for upcoming classics.
After the massive fuss of The Tree of Life earlier this year, the BFI is reviving Terrence Malick's earlier classic, Days of Heaven, with a new restored print and this beautiful poster.
The film is screening across the country at cinemas including the BFI Southbank and, up here, Edinburgh Filmhouse. Full listings are available on the BFI website.
The lovely folk at the BFI have kindly offered one poster to giveaway to a lucky Uncultured Critic reader.
To enter, answer the following question in the comments:
- Which film would you most like to see back in cinemas?
One winner will be chosen at random on Friday 2 September.
Good luck!

I'd love to see Cinema Paradiso at the cinema. Although it may be cinematic overload. Like when you type Google into Google.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see La Dolce Vita in the cinema and I will be this coming Sunday. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteI wanna see The Matrix in the cinema again.
ReplyDeleteWith appropriate intervals, Béla Tarr's Satan's Tango, please.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Un Chien Andalou, at a perfect 17 mins it would leave plenty of room for a pub discussion afterwords
ReplyDeleteI would kill everyone I love to see a 70mm print of Jacques Tati's Playtime on a big screen!
ReplyDeleteI suppose an obvious choice would be Malick's 'BADLANDS', but I'll go with Nic Roeg's 'THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH' in it's full widescreen 2.35:1 glory.
ReplyDeleteI would love love LOVE to see The Red Shoes again, because somehow I managed to miss the restored version at the BFI and have been beating myself on the head ever since...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see 2001: A Space Odyssey on the big-screen. Since it's not only one of the most visually dazzling films ever made, the sound is also incredible, making it one of the best and most unique cinematic experiences you're likely to ever have. I've seen it lot but never on the big screen... I hope that changes in the (near) future.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Victor Erice's Spirit of the Beehive remastered and re-released. The colours and atmosphere on the big screen would be unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteThis Ettore Scola film seems to have disappeared from the surface of the Earth. I have been wanting to revisit it for some time: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074252/
ReplyDeleteThere are so many...but I would have to say one of the best westerns of all time - Silverado.
ReplyDeleteOr...a bit of a Marmite film...Waterworld :-)
Rio Bravo (maybe my favourite film) would be cool. Probably say something like The Devil’s Playground or Zabriskie Point, though -- films by two of my favourite filmmakers that I’ve been unavailable to get hold of on DVD and never caught on telly
ReplyDeleteThe English Patient would look magnificent against a backdrop of overly-digital/modern films. Also, any Malick film in Leicester would be awesome - none of them are screening nearby.
ReplyDeleteOr Lawrence of Arabia / In the Mood for Love, naturally.
